Solid waste is one of the main causes of pollution in Egypt. It remains to be a continues challenge, particularly prevention, collection, transport, treatment, recycling, recovery and final disposal. The current waste collection system abandons large areas leaving them un-serviced, and the majority of waste collected is disposed in open dumps with no effective treatment or control procedures in place.
